The Providence Public School District (PPSD) and FeedRI joined education leaders, city officials, and community partners for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of a new food pantry at the Juanita Sanchez Education Complex (JSEC). Sponsored by the Providence Bruins, the new JSEC food pantry marks the 17th school-based food pantry established across the district.

Providence, RI – Today, Mayor Brett Smiley and City Councilor Jo-Ann Ryan joined Providence Public School leaders at Pleasant View Elementary School to celebrate the official ribbon cutting a new playground at the newly renovated, state-of-the-art elementary school.

Building from Within: Providence Public School’s  "Grow Your Own" Teacher Apprenticeship Program

PROVIDENCE, RI - The Providence Public School District (PPSD) is making strides by transforming the way it builds its educator pipeline by growing talent from within its own walls. PPSD was one of the first school districts in the state to launch a formally recognized Pre-K Special Education and K-12 “Grow Your Own” Teacher Apprenticeship Program that was approved by the Rhode Island State Apprenticeship Council.

Providence, RI – The Providence Public School District (PPSD) welcomed students back for the 2026-27 school year on Tuesday, August 25, marking the first full academic year since the district’s transition back to local control on July 1, 2026. This milestone follows years of measurable progress under state intervention, including rebounding assessment scores, record-high graduation rates, and a massive $1 billion investment in modernizing school facilities.
